“We all know the benefits of eating fresh, locally grown food,” said Steve Thomson, Minister of Agriculture and Lands. “It is great to see B.C.’s agricultural community leading by example and donating fresh B.C. produce as well as funds to a local food bank.”
Last year the BCAC contributed over 50 baskets of BC food products to the Abbotsford Food Bank immediately following the Gala. It was decided this year to make a financial contribution with the event proceeds at a time of year when many people may have other priorities, such as making vacation plans.
“We are providing the contribution now to help raise some awareness of the importance of giving back to our local communities,” said Etsell. Food Banks are reliant on community support throughout the year, and both financial and food donations are crucial to their ability to provide service.
